The main thing to make to make multiplayer easier and cheaper to code, is that it doesn't need to be online:
a local split screen would do just fine for now. Stardew valley manage to get local splitscreen working. If stardew valley got all those systems and interfaces working with the local coop, bear and breakfast also can.
Second player play as Anni and have exactly the same stuff unlocked by Hank and can do everything that Hank can do (pick stuff, craft, build, inventory)
I wouldn't mind at all if player 2 start a conversion I saw Hank's face and dialog (so no need to rewrite dialogs). Also, I wouldn't not mind if the second player doesn't have any "equipment" (hats and stuff), this would make the multiplayer easier to make.
